This October, we’re embracing more than pumpkins, and apples, and all things Halloween. Because while those are important (pumpkin spice lattes, anyone?), there’s another major food group on our mind: seafood — and specifically next week’s tilapia recipe. After all, National Seafood Month only comes around once a year, so if there’s ever been a time to talk about sustainable sourcing, top-notch nutrition, and incredible flavor of one of our favorite types of fish, it’s now.

Sustainable Sourcing

Back in February, we made our commitment to responsible, ocean-friendly seafood (both wild-caught and farm-raised) official by partnering with Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch®. In other words, if fish is not rated Best Choice, Good Alternative, or eco-certified, you won’t find it in your box. Period.

And next week’s tilapia from Regal Springs is no exception.

The fish are raised in vast freshwater lakes where they grow healthy and strong by swimming against natural currents in large floating pens. This prevents them from eating algae, mud, or waste while ensuring a controlled environment with no overcrowding.

The result? All-natural tilapia without antibiotics, growth hormones, polyphosphates, carbon monoxide, mercury, or chemicals.

Oh — and not only is this fish rated a Good Alternative by Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch®, but it also boasts certifications from the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), Agriculture Stewardship Council (ASC), and BRC Global Standard for Food Safety — so you can rest assured knowing it was raised to the highest international standards for health and safety.

Top-Notch Nutrition

Seafood is a high-protein, low-calorie food that’s also high in several essential vitamins (including vitamin D, A, and B-complex) and minerals (including selenium, zinc, iodine, and iron). Tilapia in particular has an impressive list of health benefits, including…

  • Boosting brain health with potassium and omega-3 fatty acids
  • Supporting the immune system with selenium
  • Keeping bones, teeth, and nails strong with phosphorous

Incredible Flavor

Tilapia has a mild flavor, which means it’s essentially a blank slate for different flavors and spices like the sour cream, chives, lemon, and panko in next week’s recipe. And it’s thin, too, which means a quick sear on the stove is all it needs. Talk about the perfect protein for this 20-Minute Meal!

No wonder tilapia is the #1 white fish in the United States, with 1.4 pounds consumed per person per year.

Order next week’s Crispy Breaded Tilapia to get a taste of this sustainable, nutritious, and flavorful lake-grown fish for yourself.
