DIY Cutlery January 28, 2016

by Tips & Tricks

You know how the dryer eats socks, and you’re left with mismatched feet for the rest of your days? (Side note, I have a theory on this, comment for more details.)

Well, I don’t know how it happens, but something very similar is going on with my cutlery drawer. I know that I bought service for eight and I know, at one point, I had eight spoons, eight knives, and eight forks. I also know, however, that now I only have six spoons, seven forks, and somehow nine knives. It’s a mess in there, and nothing matches from all the years of replacing! I’m pretty sure silverware falls in my purse while I’m out at restaurants, and/or slips through the slots in my dishwasher into the great abyss.

Anyway, that’s all besides the point. The bottom line is, if your cutlery is old and tarnished, or mismatched to begin with (in shape or in number), it might be time for an art project. Make a statement with your service and get creative! Today, mismatched is a style we’re celebrating.

What to do:

  1. Stick the waterproof tape in a line across the handle of the spoon, fork or knife to divide where you want to paint from where you don’t
  2. Paint the handles with primer and allow to dry
  3. Paint the handles with enamel paint and allow to dry
  4. Paint the handles with the acrylic sealer, and allow to dry
  5. Remove the tape, wash, and use!
