How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love Rosé August 20, 2017

by Eat

Rosé has been trending because it makes people feel good. While I’ve always stuck to the traditional red and white wine varietals, this summer I wanted to get in on that good feeling. I experimented with three easy ways to get the most out of this delicious pink drink.

I wear pink. I listen to pink. I watch (pretty in) pink. But, I never quite got myself to drink pink. I fell victim to a silly notion that unwinding with pink bubbly would cast aspersions on my masculinity. This idea of “lady drinks,” however, is preposterous. Wine is wine. The fact that I crave rosé more than my sister is not an aberration. It’s just good drinking.

This summer I’ve been using rosé in inspiring ways to elevate my meals and beverages. Here are three easy ways to get the most out of this delicious pink drink during these final weeks of the summer season.

1. Eating with Rosé

What makes rosé so versatile is that its flavor profile falls in between the extremes of red and white wine – less intense than a big, tannic red, but with more depth than a super-light white. It’s nearly foolproof in food-pairing contexts. But if you’re taco obsessed like me, or love nothing more than refreshing watermelon salad on a hot summer day, you’ll want to sip rosé with these two meals for the ultimate dinnertime bliss.

2. Cooking with Rosé

Not only is pairing rosé with food simple, but so is cooking with it. If you have a dry rosé on hand use it like you would a white wine. It can also be used instead of a red wine as a marinade, and in slow-cooked casseroles and braises. I found that it worked fabulously well in our Hall of Fame dish, Cherry Balsamic Pork Chops. The rosé brought an almost floral nuance that I can’t imagine achieving with anything else.

3. Drinking with Rosé

When something makes me happy I inevitably want more of it. Enter rosé ice cubes. What better way to keep your rosé chilled without diluting it than floating some pretty ice cubes in the glass. It’s an ice cube that tastes not just grand, but perfectly grand when dropped into the liquid that created it.

Look, rosé is white and red, feminine and masculine, makes me happy, and recharges my taste buds. It’s the perfect barbecue wine, the perfect beach wine, and most importantly, the perfect Netflix and chill wine.

How have you been enjoying rosé this summer? Let me know in the comments!
