We collaborated with one of our incredibly talented chefs here at HelloFresh, Freida Hirsch, to create these delicious, refreshing recipes to ring in 2020 in the most memorable way!

roaring 20s party champagne

Champagne Cocktail Bar

Get the party started with some bubbly! A little history sesh on the classic champagne cocktail is that it’s one of the oldest cocktails in the books. Seriously… it was published in the world’s first cocktail book in 1862. Though it wasn’t invented in the 1920s, it was enjoyed copiously throughout the decade. Plus, nothing says 1920s opulence more than a coupe glass full of bubbly.

You can give this traditional recipe a twist by saturating a sugar cube with several dashes of angostura bitters before placing it in the bottom of a champagne glass. Then, top it with chilled champagne and garnish with a lemon twist before serving.

Fresh Tip: To get the most out of the twist, squeeze it over the glass, then rub it along the edge before dropping in.

To really pump up the party, you can buy an assortment of different bitters (the options are endless!) and prepare a variety of citrus twists, like grapefruit, lime, meyer lemon, blood orange, and tangerine. Not only does it look beautiful, but it also allows guests to custom build their own drinks!

Check out these fun flavor combinations for some inspiration:

  • Angostura bitters with a lemon twist (the classic!)
  • Cardamom bitters with an orange twist
  • Smoked chili bitters with a grapefruit twist
  • Hibiscus bitters with a lime twist
  • Lavender bitters with a meyer lemon twist

roaring 20s party eggs

East & West Egg Appetizers

Inspired by the world of The Great Gatsby, these deviled eggs are as delicious (and easy to prepare!) as they are punny. Depending on the size of your party, make a batch of your favorite classic deviled eggs, then top as followed:

East Eggs (inspired by caviar service): A dollop of crème fraîche, caviar (or salmon roe), chives, and a potato chip.

West Eggs (inspired by Crab Louie): Lump crab, a dollop of Russian dressing, a blanched asparagus tip, chopped tarragon, and a pinch of hot smoked paprika.

Fresh Tip: For a memorable presentation, label the eggs on a platter with signs with their respective titles.

Bananas Foster Pudding Dessert

Banana pudding as we know it was created in the 1920’s due to the popularization of Nabisco vanilla wafers. For a party-worthy dessert, serve this dressed up version in cocktail glasses to see all the beautiful layers.

How to make:

Sauté sliced bananas with plenty of butter and brown sugar until soft, caramelized, and saucy. (Fresh Tip: Add a splash of rum if you have it!) Season with salt, and let cool. In cocktail glasses, layer bananas with vanilla pudding, crushed vanilla wafers, chopped toasted walnuts, and whipped cream. Then, garnish with freshly grated nutmeg, and serve!
