Like most Italian recipes, there are deep rooted histories, fantastical stories, and, of course, delicious flavors based on the abundance of fresh produce found in this country.  Campania, towards the south of Italy, is known for its creamy Mozzarella Cheese, and plump tomatoes. Hence, this favorite Italian dish was born.

During Queen Margherita of Savoy’s trip to Naples in 1889, chef Rafaele Esposito of Pizzeria Brandi created this classic combination of mozzarella, basil, and tomato sauce to represent the colors of the Italian flag. They named it “Margherita” in her honor.

Unlike the cheese pizza you’ll find at your local pizza joint, or fast food restaurant, a true Margherita Pizza is made with fresh Mozzarella and basil – we promise you’ll taste the difference, and be very pleased!
