8 Hot Dog Topping Recipes You Need To Try This Summer July 7, 2020

Caribbean Jerk Hot Dog + Bibimbap Dog

1. Caribbean Jerk Hot Dog

Give your BBQ an island twist with this hot dog straight out of the Caribbean.

Ingredients

  • Pineapple
  • Red onion
  • Jalapeño
  • Cilantro
  • Lime zest
  • Rum
  • Oil
  • Jerk Seasoning Spice Blend
  • Butter
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Brown sugar (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Grill pineapple and red onion slices until well charred.
  2. Roughly chop and combine with finely chopped jalapeño, cilantro, lime zest, and a splash of rum.
  3. Season with salt and a pinch of brown sugar.
  4. Rub hot dogs all over with oil and Jerk Seasoning Spice Blend.
  5. Grill until cooked through.
  6. Place on buttery toasted buns, and top with pineapple salsa.

2. Bibimbap Hot Dog

Take it to the next level with this Korean-inspired hot dog.

 Ingredients

  • 1 Egg (per hot dog)
  • Kimchi
  • Sesame Seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil or Butter (per hot dog)

Instructions

  1. Cook hot dogs on stove or grill.
  2. To fry eggs, heat 1 TBSP oil or butter in a pan over medium heat.
  3. Once hot, crack 1-2 at a time into the pan and cover.
  4. Cook until whites are set but yolks are still runny, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Season with salt.
  6. Place 1 egg in each bun and top with a hot dog and kimchi.
  7. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

 

Quick Corn Chow Chow Hot Dog + Carolina BBQ Pulled Pork and Slaw Hot Dog

3. Quick Corn Chow Chow Hot Dog

Relish or slaw…it’s whatever you want it to be.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Corn Kernels
  • 1 Cup Diced Bell Peppers
  • 1 Cup Chopped Tomatillos
  • 1/2 Cup White Wine Vinegar
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 2 Scallions (Sliced)
  • Sprigs of Fresh Thyme
  • 1/2 Minced Jalapeño
  • Mustard
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Combine white wine vinegar, sugar, and water in a medium pot along with a couple sprigs of fresh thyme.
  2. Bring to a boil then cool slightly.
  3. Pour over corn kernels, diced bell pepper, chopped tomatillos, sliced scallions, and minced jalapeño.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Let sit for 30 minutes or overnight in an airtight container.
  6. Grill hot dogs and top with mustard and Corn Chow Chow.

*Tops 6-8 hot dogs.

4. Carolina BBQ Pulled Pork and Slaw Dog

Go big and ~stay home~ with this Carolina-style hot dog.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Head Shredded Cabbage
  • 1 Shredded Carrot
  • 1 Sliced Green Bell Pepper
  • 1/2 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Mustard Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Celery Seeds
  • 1/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • Pulled Pork
  • Carolina-style BBQ Sauce
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. To make Carolina style vinegar-based slaw, combine a half a head of thinly shredded cabbage, 1 shredded carrot, and 1 thinly sliced green bell pepper with ½ cup apple cider vinegar, ½ tsp mustard powder, ½ tsp ground celery seeds, ¼ cup granulated sugar, and ⅓ cup vegetable oil in a mixing bowl.
  2. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Toss cooked pulled pork in your favorite store bought Carolina-style BBQ sauce (or make your own!).
  4. Grill hot dogs and serve in a bun topped with pulled pork and slaw.

*Tops 6-8 hot dogs.

Poutine + Reuben Style Hot Dog

5. Poutine Dog

FRIES on a hot dog…enough said. Impress everyone at the table (even the little ones) with this Canadian-inspired hot dog.

Ingredients

  • Crispy French Fries
  • Cheese Curds
  • Mushroom Gravy (or your favorite!)
  • Crispy Bacon
  • Chopped Onions
  • Jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Top grilled hot dogs with crispy french fries (using frozen is just fine).
  2. Add roughly chopped cheese curds and your favorite gravy.
  3. Load it up with other toppings like crispy bacon, chopped onions, and jalapeños.
  4. Serve it on a soft potato hot dog bun.

6. Reuben Style Hot Dog

Get all the flavor a reuben sandwich has to offer!

Ingredients

  • Sauerkraut
  • Swiss Cheese
  • Thousand Island dressing

Instructions

  1. Heat sauerkraut in a saucepan over medium heat until warm.
  2. Cook hot dogs on the stove or grill.
  3. Open buns and slightly toast the insides on grill or pan.
  4. Remove buns from heat and fill with hot dogs and Swiss cheese.
  5. Return filled buns to pan or grill over medium heat and cover until cheese is melted.
  6. Remove from grill, and top with sauerkraut.
  7. Drizzle with homemade or store-bought Thousand Island dressing.

Loaded Street Cart Hot Dog- NY City Classic and Bacon Wrapped Everything Bagel Hot Dog

7. Loaded Street Cart Dog – NYC Classic

Be a NYC tourist from the comfort of your own home.

Ingredients

  • 1 Large Onion
  • 1 Tablespoon Yellow Mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Ketchup
  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Chili Powder
  • Sauerkraut
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Hot Sauce (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Cook 1 large sliced onion until softened and translucent over medium high heat, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Stir in yellow mustard, ketchup, and ¼ cup water.
  3. Season with 1 tsp each sugar, chili powder, and simmer until soft and tender, about 5-8 minutes.
  4. Season with salt, pepper and a dash of hot sauce.
  5. Top grilled (or boiled) hot dogs with onions, sauerkraut, and spicy brown mustard.

Tops 6-8 hot dogs.

8. Bacon Wrapped Everything Bagel Dog  

What’s better than bacon? A hot dog wrapped in bacon!

Ingredients

  • 8 Ounces Cream Cheese
  • Oil
  • 1/3 Cup Capers
  • 1-2 Slices of Bacon (per hot dog)
  • Capers
  • Everything Bagel Seasoning
  • Chopped Scallions
  • Hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Bring 8 oz cream cheese to room temperature.
  2. Heat a thin layer of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Once oil is hot enough that a caper sizzles immediately when added to the pan, add 1/3 cup capers and cook, stirring occasionally until crispy, 1-3 minutes.
  4. Carefully transfer capers to a paper-towel-lined plate.
  5. Wrap each hot dog or sausage with 1-2 slices of bacon, using toothpicks to secure if necessary.
  6. Fry in a pan or in a covered grill over medium heat, rotating until bacon is crispy, 5-10 minutes.
  7. Spread a layer of cream cheese on the inside of each bun.
  8. Fill with bacon wrapped hot dogs and top with fried capers, everything bagel seasoning, and chopped scallions.
  9. Drizzle with hot sauce for an extra kick!
