Happy Monday December 4, 2012
Happy Monday HelloFreshers! Need a break from catching up on emails all morning? Here’s a little trivia question regarding today’s post and this week’s delivery: Which macronutrient helps hair and nail growth and is an important building block of bones, muscles and cartilage?
If you guessed protein, you are absolutely right! This week’s delivery of Vietnamese Chicken Salad, Lasagna Style Baked Penne, Herb Garlic Beef with Vegetables, Roasted Coconut Cod and/or Maluku Island Pilau with Eggplant includes great protein sources that are both delicious and will keep you feeling fuller longer and faster.
Cod is a one of the cleanest sources of protein with little or no carbohydrates or fat. Along with 30 grams of protein and 120 calories for a 4 ounce serving, eating cod helps cardiovascular health, increases heart muscle function and protects skin so eat lots of it!
As mentioned in my first post, almonds are beneficial for cognitive function. They are also high in protein and contain 12% of your daily allowance of protein in just 1 ounce. Sprinkle some chopped almonds in your salad or yogurt for a plethora of benefits.
Lastly, chicken is a complete protein, meaning it contains all the essential amino acids the human body requires but cannot produce. It also provides more protein than it does fat or carbohydrates. Always go for roasted or grilled chicken and stay away from fried!
Have a great week and happy cooking!
