Tips to Avoid Over Eating on Thanksiving November 16, 2012

by the-thanksgiving-countdown-is-officially-down-to

The Thanksgiving countdown is officially down to the single digits! For many of you, this gluttonous holiday is the perfect paradigm of a love-hate relationship. You get to indulge in your favorite foods and do a whole lot of nothing, but you may also pay the consequences (i.e. – massive food coma and laziness). Here are a few Thanksgiving friendly tips to keep in mind to avoid the latter:

1. Don’t starve yourself all day. Saving those calories for later could actually backfire and attribute to more eating. Snack on fruit, nuts or even a bite of your favorite dish throughout the day to avoid overeating.

2. Be mindful of portions. It’s easy to “eat with your eyes” and overestimate how much you’re really going to eat. Fill your plate with what you think is a reasonable amount since you can always have seconds (and possibly thirds) and your favorite dessert!

3. Stay hydrated. Drinking water, instead of sugary beverages and/or alcohol, will keep you feeling fuller and help avoid overindulging. If you are going for your favorite drink, one glass won’t hurt 😉

Happy eating and early Thanksgiving!
