Why Everyone Should Be Putting Brussels Sprouts on Pizza December 4, 2017
Don’t knock it ’till you try it.
Brussels sprouts and pizza seem like the unlikeliest of friends (more like acquaintances or next door neighbors or that co-worker you only see at the holiday party). So when our chefs dreamed up this Pancetta Flatbread Pizza with Shredded Brussels Sprouts and Chili Honey Drizzle (which you can order now!), we were skeptical. But what the heck, we thought. Might as well try it.
And boy are we glad we did. IT WAS REVOLUTIONARY. Arguably the best pizza we’ve ever tasted. A dinnertime dream-come-true.
You get the point.
There are many, many reasons why everyone should be putting Brussels sprouts on pizza, but here’s our top five.
1. For the pop of color
We’re clearly partial to all things green, and Brussels sprouts are no exception. Just look how stunning they are against the deep red tomato sauce. SO #HelloFreshPics worthy.
2. For the added nutrition
This cruciferous veggie comes jam-packed with iron, folate, and vitamins A and C so you can have your
cake pizza and eat it, too.
3. For the taste
In this recipe, the shredded sprouts are allowed a few minutes in the pan to get nice and crispy while soaking up all that delicious pancetta flavor. And as if that wasn’t enough, they also spend some time in the oven for even more crunch and well-rounded flavor.
4. For the simplicity
5 minutes is all it takes for the shredded sprouts to crisp up in the pan, and 20 minutes for the entire recipe to come together. Doesn’t get much simpler than that.
5. For the seasonality
Classic pizza is great any time of the year, but since Brussels sprouts are in peak season during the months of November and December, now’s a great time to experiment with more wintery spins on the dinnertime classic.
