Behind The Scenes of Our New TV Commercials February 1, 2018
If you’ve been channel surfing lately, odds are you’ve come across our new series of TV commercials. But if not, you’re in luck. In addition to sharing the clips, we’re taking you behind the scenes to share why we chose to feature real customers, how we found them, and why we’re especially excited about everything they had to say.
Why feature customers in a TV commercial?
Is it just us, or does it feel like everyone (and we mean everyone) has an opinion on meal kits? From which is the most affordable, to which has the best tasting recipes, the easiest-to-navigate website, the most menu options, the friendliest Customer Care Team… you get the point. People have opinions. And while we love the fact that everyone’s as passionate about this as we are, it’s difficult to sift through it all and decide what, and whom, to trust.
So when it came time for us to decide whom to feature in our TV commercials, the answer was simple: real customers. Not our employees and definitely not actors. We went straight to the HelloFresh Fam for this one.
How in the world did we find them?
Turns out when customers love HelloFresh, they talk about it. A lot. And not just to their neighbors, friends, co-workers, and neighbor’s cousin’s best friend’s co-worker (although we love those, too). They talk about HelloFresh on social media and public, unfiltered review sites — which is where we found the stars of our TV commercials.
What were the requirements to be accepted?
As long as the individual leaving the review was an actual HelloFresh customer with a story to tell, we wanted to chat. Oh — and he/she also had to be willing to spend a day with us in New York City.
That’s it.
No age, gender, race/ethnicity, background, or household income pre-requisites.
Why we LOVE what they had to say
Every single one of these commercials is unscripted, which means we didn’t tell them what to say, or how to say it. In fact, we didn’t do much talking at all. Instead, we listened.
First up, the Haines. This busy family of four from Texas has been incorporating HelloFresh into their dinner routine since January 2017 as a way to connect with each other and “calm the chaos of the day.”
And look! They even shared the HelloFresh love on Instagram with one of the most adorable #HelloFreshPics we’ve ever seen.
Next, Danielle Moulton who, as a full-time EMT, has little time to think about dinner. HelloFresh comes to her rescue by eliminating the stress of cooking and making her proud to serve her two children.
And last but certainly not least, Tre and Rich. We appreciated how honest they were in sharing their story, and loved hearing how HelloFresh helps them turn every night into date night.
