Genna

Genna joined the HelloFresh team in August of 2015. It just so happens that she makes the best chicken noodle soup this side of Grandma’s house- just don’t ask her for the recipe. It’s not that she wouldn’t share it, it’s that she doesn’t know what it is. Cooking comes from the heart and recipes are inspiring but not law.

Adrianna Jones says:

When will I receive my boxes

Jacqueline says:

Hi Adrianna! You can choose your delivery day, and in much of the country we delivery Monday-Saturday!

Sharon says:

What do you do about those who are gluten free? Or have gout or other autoamunune disorders?

Jacqueline says:

Hi Sharon – thanks so much for reaching out! Right now, customers are not able to set a specific “gluten free” menu preference for their boxes. That being said, we strive to be as transparent as possible when it comes to our nutrition and allergen information. That way, customers can make the meal choices that work best for their specific dietary needs!

Ingredient information for each recipe can be found on the website next to each meal choice. You can find the nutrition breakdown by visiting our home page, clicking on “Our Recipes,” then clicking on “This Week” or “Next Week.” Next to each meal we have all the ingredients and potential allergens (as well as in which ingredient(s) the allergen is present). You can then click on the green link, “more recipe info,” to see the nutrition breakdown.

As HelloFresh continues to grow, we greatly value our customers’ feedback and requests, and I will bring up your concerns with the rest of the team. In the meantime, if you have any further questions, feel free to send our head dietitian and nutrition manager, Rebecca, an email at nutrition@hellofresh.com. She’d be more than happy to chat with you!

Oh wow, this looks so good! I’ve been looking all over the net to try to find a few cocktails to serve my guests at our holiday party, and this will definitely be one of them. It’ll go really nicely alongside the sparkling wine cocktails I found: http://spoiledtoperfection.com/blog/blog/2016/10/24/sparkling-wine-cocktails-for-the-holidays/ Thanks so much for sharing!

Jacqueline says:

Sounds amazing, Rhianon! Happy holidays 🙂

Candace says:

I’ve tried different Campari recipes… I’ve never been able to enjoy one, or even drink it honestly. I have an everlasting bottle of Campari that I keep trying new recipes for and being disappointed 🙁 is it not insanely bitter to everyone else?! No matter how small of an amount I use, I can’t tolerate the taste.

Jacqueline says:

Candace – If Campari’s not for you, check out these two festive holiday cocktails! !

This dish was amazing. My whole family kept moving around the box. Curry they said.. humm, don’t think so. Well let me tell you, from the first smell of mustard seeds down to the Garam masala I couldn’t keep them out of the kitchen. They couldn’t wait to taste it. And much to their surprise they were not disappointed and neither was I. My son even asked me “did you keep the recipe, Mom?”. Thank you for a wonderful dish, it truly was fantastic. I will have to make the cocktail with it next time. 😉

I love a cookout !! We have have over tons of people and keep the mess outside!! One great memory was at our friend Bob’s house he had a backyard hammock it was so relaxing to just look up into the tree’s . The food was great and so was the company. #‎HelloFreshPics‬ ‪#‎Fresh‬ ‪#‎MemorialDay‬ ‪#‎Giveaway‬ ‪#‎Berrylicious‬ I love Hello Fresh !! Hope we win a free week!!

Sara Campos says:

We had a Fourth of July cookout/baby shower last summer at our small family cottage on Lake Erie where I grew up every summer (and where my parents met)! It was so much fun! Instead of cake, my mom made her famous pretzel/strawberry dessert. My husband, Dad and brother-in-law grilled hotdogs and my sister and Mom set up a hotdog topping bar. Hot dogs were my favorite food growing up, plus we were having a boy so it added a bit of humor! LOL We also had cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, chili, fresh fruit and a yummy kale and bacon salad. Our party favors were sparklers that everyone used that evening during fireworks. It was an amazing day and I can’t wait to grill out this Fourth of July with our beautiful son!!!

Jennifer Ho says:

Oh boy… my favorite cookout moment has to be from when I was 14. I wanted to grill the Korean spare ribs so my dad wouldn’t have to and to show I was a grown-up. I ended up burning the first batch because I jumped into the pool and forgot about it. The funniest part was that everyone was joking about some neighbor down the street burning his hamburgers. Nope. It was me.

Denise N says:

My favorite cookout memories are all of them! We had a large yard and very close family all on the same block! In the nice summer months we all loved to get together and spend the night hanging out with giod food and great company!

Maggie Stevenson says:

We make tinfoil dinners every Memorial Day weekend! There is nothing better than a delicious dinner over a fire, making s’mores, and spending time with family and friends. You know that when you start smelling camp fires and your neighbors grill Summer is soon around the corner. I believe a Memorial Day cake would top it all off!

Lois Troutman says:

My husband died 15 years ago from cancer. My favorite memories from Memorial Day was a huge family gathering of his family every year at his aunt and uncle’s house. Late husband was the grill chef. I miss seeing him work his magic with whatever happened to be on the grill menu. He was an excellent cook, baker, etc. His family loved having him cook anytime.

Genna says:

Hi Lois! Thank you for sharing that touching memory. We wanted to let you know that you won the Memorial Day contest! Please contact communityteam@hellofresh.com so that we can get your prizes out to you!

Sara Campos says:

Is there a runner up? LOL I wanted to win so bad!!!

Dawn LLoyd says:

I was wondering WHERE I could contact your co? I am interested in this package! I am a 60 yr. old shut-in w/NO car & limited mobility. I have friends that are suppose to take turns shopping for me every 10 days but I HAVEN’T seen any of them for about 2-3 months!
I am Gluten Free and battle INFLAMMATION 24/7…therefore don’t eat any rice or pasta! I saw lots of the dishes served came w/ some sort of rice or pasta! HOW WOULD I BE ABLE TO CHANGE THAT -ON AN ORDER?
I am also currently reading THE ANTI-INFLAMMATION ZONE by Dr. Barry Sears & considering doing it along with some other steps.
So, probably at this time, I’d have to postpone starting my TRIAL offer as I have a LV RM full of foods from a co. I have ordered ORGANIC non-perishable foods from. (I am NOT exaggerating!) I have been living in clutter and am slowly working on it! BEING in so much PAIN 24/7 has really restricted me for SEVERAL YRS!
But I ENJOYED Jamie Oliver when he was on the reality shows on TV years ago- pushing to get families & schools to CHANGE what thy serve their kids! I AGREE w/ the concept! I will keep it in my mind! I eat fairly good now; ONLY recently have I been struggling HEAVILY as I ate too much sugar and some gluten while in CA recently cuz of a family member’s unexpected death!
My body is CLEANSING constantly! I can ALWAYS tell ‘when I’ve ate too much of a WRONG thing as I start having a few CEANSING signs!
For instance, over this past weekend I ate my 1st small box of Pamela’s GF Graham Crackers. But ever since, I HAVE BEEN ITCHING NON-STOP EVER SINCE! I DON’T know what it could have been as there was NO gluten in them! But even as I ate them-they tasted SO GOOD-IT WAS LIKE THEY WERE ‘ADDICTING’ to me! (I started them on a Friday pm; ate Sat. & finished off box that night!)
And shortly afterwards, is when I STARTED EATING —ALL OVER! It’s about driven me CRAZY!
I opened up a tube I bought at a grocery store during the summer called AFTER BITE to HELP soothe your skin after bug bites/swelling/itching. IT HAS HELPED-SOME! I am also ordering Hyland’s APIS MELLIFICA mini-sublingual tablets also for ITCHING; bug bites; SKIN IRRITATIONS.
Right now, since scratching my limbs so HARD- I almost have bruises! And I have noticed blood spots on my arms!
I have a friend who has Psoriasis so I’m going to ask her about it! Hyland’s also has some tabs that would HELP her possibly!
SORRY, I got off the food subject! Thought maybe, someone there might have an IDEA –what this ingredient(s) could be!!! The co. I ordered from refunded e the cost of the graham crackers. BUT I haven’t yet contacted Pamela’s Co. to tell them! I should, yes? Plus, I ordered her Fig bars and Raspberry fig bars also GF. I have yet to open them. WONDERING IF I SHOULD RETURN THEM?
I should’ve NEVER ordered them as I KNOW how SWEET they are! DON’T need the sugar from figs! But also thought, I could use them in a recipe. As I have ate the Fig ones before! They are larger than fig newton’s. There are ONLY 10 cookies in package. Thx for letting me share.

Jacqueline says:

Hi Dawn! Thanks for sharing. Ingredient transparency is incredibly important to us, and we set out to make sure you know exactly what’s in your food. While we don’t offer a Gluten Free plan, we do try to include 2-3 Gluten Free meals per week. All of GF recipes are clearly marked as such, and you’ll have access to this information as well as the full recipe itself even before checkout. Otherwise, substituting and omitting is super easy, as everything is packaged and labeled separately. You’ll also see a full ingredients list and nutritional breakdown for each recipe on our website before you choose your meals.

Could Rebecca explain how long it takes for sugars to be digested and ready to supply energy? Also how long it takes more complex carbs, like whole wheat bagels or bananas to supply energy? How about fats and proteins?
Thanks – never sure if the fruit right before the quick run is doing anything, or if I can wait until afterward.

Genna says:

Hi Karen! Thanks for reaching out. Rebecca says,

There is a difference between the types of carbs found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains when compared to carbs coming from heavily processed and refined foods and grains (typically what makes up the majority of foods that come in a box or a bag).

Carbs that come from fruits, veggies & whole grains are nutrient dense – meaning that in addition to the carbs they contain, they also are filled with vital vitamins and minerals our body and brains need for max functioning. They are also carbs that are embedded into a matrix of fiber. Therefore, the carbs take longer to digest – which keeps our stomachs full longer and hunger cravings at bay.

Carbs that come from heavily refined foods have been stripped of the fiber, vitamins & minerals (which is why they are often “enriched” – meaning the vitamins have been added back in towards the end of production). With no fiber to slow down the digestion and absorption of the carbs – they are instead quickly digested and quickly absorbed into our bloodstream. This then causes a spike in our blood sugar and our pancreas to have to quickly release a larger than normal load of insulin to pull all that sugar out of our blood (sugar in the blood is toxic to our bodies).

Proteins and Fats have additional digestive requirements which make their digestion and absorption a longer process.

Bottom line, when it comes to what to eat I generally follow these rules:
Eat from the Earth & Eat the Rainbow: Choose foods more often when they come in their whole forms and select a variety of colors (typically the more colourful the more nutrient dense the foods are)!

Make your fridge fuller than your pantry: In other words, eat less boxed and bagged foods which are filled with sodium and other additives to make them shelf stable. Instead opt for FRESH foods.

Use the 10:1 rule: For every 10 grams of carbs, there should be 1 gram of fiber

Eat whole grains: To ensure that the boxed/bagged foods you are eating are “whole grains” – make sure the word “whole” is the first ingredient listed.

Watch your sugar intake: Avoid/Limit foods with sugar in the first 3 ingredients.

Shirley Harned says:

Any added sugar, etc. in your foods? We are actually vegan (for health reasons) and would like to know how close to vegan y’all get with your vegetarian food boxes.

Jacqueline says:

Hi Shirley, thanks so much for reaching out! Right now, customers are not able to set a specific “vegan” menu preference for their boxes. That being said, we strive to be as transparent as possible when it comes to our nutrition and allergen information. That way, customers can make the meal choices that work best for their specific dietary needs!

Jennifer reed says:

What if ur allergic to a lot of the spices and fruit y’all put in your food how do I get around that without it changing the flavor of the recipe?

Hi Jennifer! Right now, we don’t offer any plans tailored to specific allergies. However, you’ll see a full ingredient list and nutritional breakdown on the website before you choose your meals. This includes all major allergens. We take ingredient transparency very seriously, because we want to make sure you know exactly what is in your food. This makes meal choice super easy for folks with dietary restrictions!

Check out our upcoming menu here: http://bit.ly/1JuFYrc and click on “more recipe info” under each meal for a nutritional breakdown. Hope this helps! In case you have more specific questions about how HelloFresh meals can work for your dietary needs, feel free to email our nutritionist at nutrition@hellofresh.com.

I have a question and see no way to contact you. What if I am gluten and dairy (except for yogurt) intolerant? Can’t eat pasta, for example?

Thanks
Marsha

Hi there! Ingredient transparency is incredibly important to us, and we set out to make sure you know exactly what’s in your food. While we don’t offer a Gluten Free or dairy-free plan, we do try to include 2-3 Gluten Free meals per week, and we list all ingredients which include dairy.

I use my left over meats to make killer stir frys. Left over chicken, quinoa and some beautiful peppers makes a quick healthy meal and it’s really filling.

That sounds delicious Darlene, thanks for sharing!

Where does the food come from? Do you source locally?

Genna says:

Hi there– Your food is sourced and packed from your regional kitchen. When we choose our suppliers our first priority is to get to know them and their operation inside out, we personally take an on-site visit to every meat vendor we work with to ensure the operation is food safe and the animals are treated with respect. Our meats are primarily sourced domestically and are all natural. Our pork and poultry suppliers have certified that the animals they supply us with get the best treatment possible and are all hormone free.

In terms of produce, what we concentrate on is what looks and tastes best. While our product is not organic, we work with sustainable business partners to ensure high quality, seasonal, and farm-sourced produce is delivered to our customers at peak freshness. All of our suppliers have a wealth of experience, and we feel they really are some of the best.

If you have further questions, please feel free to reach out to our meat buyer directly at michael.friedman@hellofresh.com or our Dietitian/Nutritionist at nutrition@hellofresh.com.

I would love all the brain power to think up good vegetarian meals and the shopping done and delivered to my home. Just trying to know when and the time it’s delivered. Summer is boiling in Houston and I travel for my work. Maybe a door code to put it inside where it’s cool?

Genna says:

Our packaging is actually one of the coolest parts about HelloFresh (no pun intended). All of your food is sourced locally from our regional kitchens and then packed into an insulated, chilled box with state-of -the art cooling technology. We then overnight ship it to your doorstep for free (always). You choose your delivery day, but the timeframe is typically between 8am-8pm. You don’t need to be home to accept the box because it is designed to last an extra 24 hours without refrigeration! In many cases, our food spends less time in transit than what you’ll find at the grocery store! Let us know if you have any other questions, and check out our upcoming menu here: http://bit.ly/1JuFYrc
