5 Kid-Friendly Pork Recipes To Cook This Month September 14, 2017
… from burgers to pasta and everything in between.
When we set out to revamp the Family Plan, our first step was to consult the experts. And by experts, we mean parents. But since those little ones have big opinions, we also spent time researching and testing what cuisines and ingredients kids tend to like. And in the process, we learned A LOT. Like, for example, the fact that…
- Mexican cuisine reigns supreme
- Build-your-own-meals win
- Crispy-textured foods are the safest bet
- And perhaps most surprisingly … pork is the top protein
In fact, 65% of respondents rated pork recipes as #1, which is more than 10% higher than the amount who chose chicken breast or steak recipes. That’s why you’ll find at least one pork dish on each Family menu. Because when the kids tell us they love it, we listen.
Below are five of our favorite upcoming kid-friendly recipes with pork that run the gamut from Italian pasta dishes to fruit-filled burgers. Get ready to hear even the pickiest of eaters ask for seconds.
Spaghetti with tomato sauce is one of those timeliness family dishes that has a place on virtually every dinner table. But how do you keep a recipe that’s so well-worn exciting? You fill it up with flavorful ingredients like Italian pork sausage, mushrooms, and spinach for an umami-packed boost and a rich, thick, and hearty sauce. It’s comfortingly classic without being boring, and the kids will love it. It’s on the menu the week of September 16 – September 22, but you can snag a peek at the recipe here.
Lemon is an ingredient that’s humble yet mighty, and often overlooked as a garnish despite its transformative sour power. In this recipe, which is on the menu the week of September 16 – September 22, its juice perks up the pan sauce that’s drizzled over the pork and gives extra character to the potatoes and zucchini. And don’t tell the kids this, but it also adds a sunshine-y blast of vitamin C. Get the recipe here and watch this video for proof of how quick and easy the meal comes together.
Pork has a way of embracing fruity, family-friendly flavors like no other protein. And in this recipe, which is on the menu the week of September 23 – September 29, we’re smothering it in chunks of tender, saucy apple for a welcome touch of sweetness. On the side, there’s sugar snap peas and a potato cauliflower mash so good no one will notice there’s actually veggies in there. Get the recipe here.
An apple is the surprise ingredient behind the plump and moist pork burgers on the Family menu the week of September 30 – October 6. The fruit does more than just sneak in an extra healthy boost. It also helps keep the meat moist without adding any fat. Rosemary-seasoned sweet potato wedges and an apple salad round out this family-friendly dinner of champs. Get the recipe here.
These pan-seared chops are topped with a sauce that uses both cranberry jam AND dried cranberries to stunning effect, offering both pucker and palate-pleasing flavor. Pecan-studded couscous and broiled zucchini sticks are also on hand to support all that deliciousness, coming together in a meal that’s got the fun textures and flavors for the kids as well as sophistication for the adults. Oh — and speaking of adults, the meal also pairs perfectly with a glass of 2016 Raven Rosé — one of the top-quality bottles we offer as part of our wine club.
